Center Senior High PTA

Many of you are familiar with PTA at the elementary and middle school level and know they organize carnivals, send home fundraiser packets and the like to fund room parties, field trips, etc. But, you might ask “What does PTA do at the High School level?” While our fundraising efforts are different than those of our fellow PTA’s, we are still very busy working to raise money to fund equally important types of requests from students, staff and administrators not only at Center High School but also at Center Alternative School.

Our main means of support is the school bookstore, the Buzzstop, where we sell school supplies and snacks before school and during the lunch periods. Parents volunteer their time to earn money for their student’s class. It is then up to the class and their sponsor to decide how to best use the money they have earned. Some of the things the funds have gone towards in the past are Project Graduation, Prom, Homecoming, class gifts to the school, etc.

Aside from that, PTA provides food and refreshments for many events throughout the year including Back-to-School night, College Fair, Staff Appreciation and student birthdays. Sometimes staff members or administration need funds to help with something that’s not included in their district budget and we do our best to help with those requests.

We were very excited last year to start working with Center Alternative School. It’s a great facility with lots of exciting things going on. We try to do much the same thing for them that we do for CHS. Recently we were able to help launch the opening of their new library. We have also celebrated their student birthdays and Staff Appreciation.

In addition to our regular funds raised, we are able to keep a small portion of each PTA membership we sell. When you join PTA, you join a nationwide organization with many discount benefits you may not know about like Southwest Airlines Vacations, Sharp Electronics, Liberty Mutual and Barnes and Noble to name a few.

The next time you see the PTA table set up at a school function, please stop by and purchase a membership to help us help “our children”. If you would like to become actively involved in PTA, we’ll help you with that too!
